Staff treats newly hired restaurant server like trash and rushes him during his 1-hour break after a 12-hour shift, so he quits effective immediately: ‘This was my last straw.’

Being hire into a restaurant means being hired into season 3 of some drama. People who work in the service industry know how clique-y it can get. So when this new hire was getting "mean-girl-ed" by the staff and management, they decided to quit asap. 

Even if you don't quit in a socially acceptable "professional" way, that's okay. Because sometimes these managers and staff need to face the consequences of their actions. If that means you have to burn a bridge on the way out, so be it! This was the path a new hire at a restaurant took and they weren't even through with training before they turned in their resignation, effective immediately!

  • "Quit during training week"

    I started a new job at a Korean fried chicken place through my brother. He received a job offer from elsewhere and quit the Korean fried chicken restaurant while referring me for his position.

  • If you are welcomed into the chaos that is a restaurant staff, then buckle up for a wild ride. Anyone who has worked in the service industry knows that a lot of drama goes on within the staff, even within staff of neighboring establishments! It can be fun or it can be excruciating. It all depends on the staff you start working with. Are they welcoming or not inclusive? 

    In the case of this newly hired server, he found out that this staff was not going to welcome them into their pack. So what did he do? Well, he tried his darnedest for the first part of his training, but by the end… Well, he quit before he was working the floor on his own. 

  • I directly told him I can't work on that day and he said okay then later explains how to request days off.

  • You know what? Good for him! Too many of us try to “tough it out” when we first start a job. We always think that maybe it will get better and that everything new is difficult at first. That's how you learn and grow, right? Sure, sometimes. But when it comes to your professional life, don't take no bs. You are worth more than that! Your mental health is worth more. You do not need to keep working somewhere. You especially do not need to try to “tough it out” at a workplace that treats you like trash. Once again, you are better than that! So we applaud this now-ex-server.

  • SunshineAlways I would guess to possibly improve the experience for someone else. People quit restaurants all the time, management doesn't usually think it's because of them. If you give them a logical, factual critique, perhaps they'll realize things need to change.

  • Vin-DicktiveDiaries Scheduling you on your exam day wasn't a mistake; it was a test. The manager heard you say 'I have a board exam,' and his brain translated it to 'I have a boundary you need to crush.' By scheduling you anyway, he was checking to see if he owned you. If you had shown up, you would have failed the exam and been stuck there forever. Resigning immediately was the only passing grade. You chose your future over their fryer. Correct answer.
